Wanderers could make it three league wins on the spin when Carlisle United come to town this weekend.

Ian Evatt’s men enter the game on the back of victories against Port Vale and Stevenage – beating the latter 3-2 in midweek thanks to goals from Dion Charles, Jack Iredale and Josh Sheehan.

The Whites currently sit third in the League One table, behind only Portsmouth and Oxford, ahead of the upcoming international break.

Team news

Wanderers have been boosted by the return of Victor Adeboyejo, who has missed the past three matches after picking up a knee injury in training.

However, Ricardo Santos, Paris Maghoma and Carlos Mendes Gomes all remained sidelined, while George Johnston is a long-term absentee.

Gethin Jones will not be involved against his former club as he serves the final game of his suspension.

Meanwhile, Carlisle defender Ben Barclay is closing in on a return to action and could make the squad this weekend.

Opposition lowdown

Paul Simpson’s side were promoted from League Two last season after beating Stockport on penalties in the play-off final at Wembley.

The Cumbrian outfit have had a tough start to life back in the third tier, taking eight points from their opening 11 fixtures with their only victory so far coming against Shrewsbury.

They drew 1-1 against Peterborough last time out thanks to Jordan Gibson’s equaliser in the sixth minute of stoppage time. Ronnie Edwards had initially put Posh in front midway through the second half.

Head-to-head

Wanderers have faced Carlisle 29 times in their history, with an even record of 11 wins, seven draws and 11 defeats.

Evatt’s men ran out 1-0 winners when the sides last met in a competitive fixture in April 2021, with Eoin Doyle getting the decisive goal that day.

The Whites are unbeaten in their last six matches against the Cumbrian club – a run stretching back to 1987.
