Wanderers are keeping their fingers crossed that Victor Adeboyejo will not face an extended spell out of action after pulling out of the squad to face Port Vale at the weekend.
The five-goal striker was not part of the 1-0 win at Vale Park after picking up a knee injury on the training ground the day before the game.
Ian Evatt was not wiling to risk him on Saturday but is optimistic there will be enough improvement to consider him against Stevenage or Carlisle United before the international break.
“We are hopeful it is not a serious problem,” he said. “He hyper-extended his knee in training on Friday and there is a little bit of swelling and soreness.
“We are hopeful that it is a reactive thing to the movement he made rather than it being any serious damage.
“The knee itself seems solid and strong so we are hopeful it won’t be too serious.”
With several players out of commission, Wanderers named three B Team players on the bench at Vale.
Luke Matheson, Nelson Khumbeni and Ben Andreucci were unused substitutes on the day but Evatt believes being in the matchday squad for a League One game will do them good.
“It is great experience for them,” he said. “Those boys in particular have done very well and impressed me.
“It is good for them to come here and see what it takes to win football matches at this level.”
