Wanderers have three “huge” games coming up before the international break, and Nathan Baxter insists the squad will give everything despite being light in numbers.
The Whites face a tough trip to Port Vale this afternoon, with the Valiants sitting in fourth after a promising start to the campaign.
Stevenage and Carlisle also come to town next week as Ian Evatt’s men aim to keep getting points on the board.
“When you have a break, you know that you must give everything you possibly can,” Baxter told The Bolton News.
“There are three huge games and they are games we want to get a positive result in. When the break comes, we want to make sure that we are in a better place in the table than where we are now.”
Baxter has had a promising start to life in the North West after joining on a free transfer from Chelsea over the summer.
The 24-year-old’s performances haven’t come as a surprise, having spent the past couple of season on loan in the Championship with Hull.
“As a goalie, it is slightly different. We lost the game at Reading and I probably had one oy my best games,” he explained.
“You can’t control the result as much, sometimes it is best when you don’t touch the ball and no-one really talks about you because the team has played better.
“Other times, there are aspects people don’t notice such as playing a good pass or coming for a through ball.
“It is more about making sure that we get good results and playing a part in the team being successful.”
The defeat at Reading earlier this month was a setback for Wanderers, but Baxter has been pleased with their response – battling bravely with 10 men against Peterborough before running riot against Manchester United Under-21s in midweek.
“Even after the Reading game, we had a really good week of training where we addressed things we can improve on,” he continued.
“We brought that into the game against Peterborough, obviously that was slightly ‘false’ after the red card.
“We know that the opposition have different strengths and weaknesses in the (EFL Trophy) but the performance we put on the other night, there was a lot of what we had worked on throughout the week – both on and off the ball.
“Every time we’ve had a setback, we have responded and it is up to us to make sure we don’t have those setbacks to need a response.
“We’re going in the right direction. We are working very hard on the training pitch and for large degrees of games, I think the supporters have seen the fruits of our hard work. But at the same time, there have been key moments that haven’t gone our way.
“Over the course of the season, eventually our quality will show through and I have full confidence in the lads, the staff and the club as a whole that we will be exactly where we want to be when it matters.”
