It might have taken a couple of weeks, but Josh Dacres-Cogley has now officially opened his Bolton account.
The pacy wing-back wasn’t sure if the winner against Derby would be credited to him, but the dubious goals panel eventually voted in his favour.
Dacres-Cogley has also provided a couple of assists in the league and is eager to keep contributing in the final third.
“I am buzzing with it, I want to keep building on that and try to get assists. We have a little competition in the team so I want to be at the top of that leaderboard,” he grinned.
The 27-year-old, who joined on a free transfer from Tranmere over the summer, has made the step up to League One football look seamless and already seems to be at home in Ian Evatt’s system.
“I am really enjoying it. It has been a move overdue for me, I think it was the perfect timing. I have settled in well with all the lads,” he continued.
“I think I have adapted well to it, I was ready for it after the two previous seasons. It is always going to be a bit different to what you have experienced before.
“But you have to adapt to it as quickly as possible and try to make an impact. That is what I am trying to do.”
Wanderers’ wing-backs effectively operate as wingers at times, and Dacres-Cogley has made the most of his opportunities to get forward in recent weeks.
“It is a lot different to what I was used to last year, so it is about adapting to that, being patient and knowing teams are going to give you that time and respect because of how we play,” he explained.
“It is about being patient and knowing that when we get a chance to cut through a team or create a chance, you have got to be precise to make the most of it.”
The international break arguably came at a bad time for the Whites, who were building real momentum following the victories against Derby and Salford.
But the former Tranmere man reckons he will benefit from a break in the schedule after a hectic start to life at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
“I think it is different for every individual,” he stated. “With me, I have played every league game so it was good for me to get a little break, reset and go again.
“On the other hand, you have other lads who haven’t played as much as they probably wanted to and feel like they want to get back out there.
“It is a mix, but it has been good for me to have a little break and get ready to go again.”
Dacres-Cogley is determined to maintain his consistent start to the season and is excited about the journey ahead at Wanderers.
“(Evatt) has been massive, and so have all the other coaching staff,” he added. “I think they have added to my game in a positive way and it will only help me to progress, move forward and be more successful at what I do.”
