PROUD Bury boss Andy Welsh said Tuesday’s stunning 3-2 comeback win against Wythenshawe Town epitomised his players’ never-say-die attitude.
The unbeaten Shakers stormed back from 2-0 down to make it three wins out of three in NWCL Premier Division which followed up Saturday’s impressive 4-1 win against Uttoxeter Town in the FA Cup.
Bury trailed 2-0 at the break but two goals from Andrew Briggs in the opening 10 minutes of the second half levelled matters before Sajjad Elhassan scored the winner from the penalty spot in the 77th minute.
“The lads left absolutely everything on the pitch, it is what the club is built on,” Welsh told the club website. “It’s hard work and hard work conquering all and making sure we continue to play the way we want to play.
“Disappointing first half for a number of reasons but we know what we are capable of, we know we never-say-die and I just thought that second half performance was brave because the pitch was a tough pitch to play on.
“We played when we could and a couple of the goals were outstanding, great team goals and once again I’m a very proud manager of Bury FC.”
Latest signing, former Wrexham defender Curtis Obeng, started in defence while Abimola Obasoto - who played under Welsh at Bury AFC - was on the bench.
The Shakers were without leading scorer Benito Lowe who had scored in every game so far this season - including a brace against Uttoxeter in the cup at the weekend.
“He pulled up slightly in training,” said Welsh whose side have been drawn away at Charnock Richard in the FA Cup Preliminary Round, to be played on August 19. “We have got to be careful because obviously it is a long season but he is going to need a little bit of time to get back from that but I thought Connor (Coomber) and Briggsy were very, very good.
“We need a squad, Benni is a fantastic character, he optimises everything that I want in a player…he is everything you want in a player at this football club and he knows that he needs his teammates now to perform and they have done that and that is what this club is about, it is not the I it is about the We.”
Bury now turn their attentions to Saturday’s home clash with newly-promoted Chadderton on Saturday and Welsh is expecting another tough test.
“I went to watch them on Sunday against Albion Sports,” he said. “They have recruited well they have got a couple of decent players in there that can hurt us and it is like any team , Wythenshawe weren’t a push over, they have got a certain style of play, they are a work in progress as well.”
