Wanderers have announced the signing of versatile Luton Town attacker Carlos Mendes Gomes.
Mendes Gomes has put pen to paper over a three-year deal at Bolton and arrives from the Hatters for an undisclosed fee.
“He’s someone who has been on our radar for a long time and someone I have admired since that season together in League Two,” said Ian Evatt.
“This is an important deal for us and I’m grateful to the board for allowing us to get it done.
“Carlos is coming to us from a Premier League club with experience of playing in the Championship and League One.
“He’s a proven performer in our current division and, at just 24, someone we believe is capable of going higher again and progessing on this journey with us.
“He is a multi-functional player who can play in a number of attacking positions, who will add variety, pace and the ability to dribble and drive past defenders, which is something we’ve been looking to add.
“He can also create and score goals, as we’ve seen first-hand, and is someone who will excite the fans as a big addition to the squad.”
Senegal-born Mendes Gomes spent time in Atletico Madrid’s ranks as a youngster before moving to England, where he started playing for West Didsbury & Chorlton in the non-league pyramid.
His performances earned a move to the EFL with Morecambe, scoring 16 goals during the 2020/21 campaign as the Shrimps won promotion to League One via the play-offs.
The attacker was then snapped up by Luton, going on to make 15 first-team appearances at Kenilworth Road.
Mendes Gomes spent last season on loan at Fleetwood, scoring 10 goals in 38 games for Scott Brown’s side including a stunning strike in a 2-1 defeat against the Whites.
The 24-year-old becomes Wanderers’ seventh signing of the summer after Nathan Baxter, Joel Coleman, Josh Dacres-Cogley, Will Forrester, Dan Nlundulu and Zac Ashworth.
He trained with his new team-mates for the first time today and could feature against Everton at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Tuesday night.
