New Wanderers youngster Trevon Bryan has already learnt from a former Bolton favourite who certainly knew where the net was.
Bryan joined the Whites’ ranks this summer after leaving Burnley, where he played under Tony Philliskirk in the Clarets' Under-18 side.
Many Wanderers supporters will remember watching Philliskirk score some important goals at Burnden Park, earning the nickname ‘The Iceman’.
Bryan has a long road ahead but couldn’t have imagined a better start to his time at Bolton, scoring a stunner just a couple of minutes into his first outing against Lancaster.
“The ball just popped up,” he recalled. “I saw Pets (Arran Pettifer) running on the outside of me so I was thinking about slipping him in. But I saw the gap open on my left foot and just went for it.”
It was a brilliant strike, nestling in the top corner and giving the Lancaster goalkeeper absolutely no chance.
Bryan also scored a superb free-kick against Wanderers while playing for Burnley’s Under-23 side last season.
“I’ve found the first few weeks really good,” he continued. “The lads have taken me in well and treated me like I’d already been there.
“They’ve made me feel very comfortable and the coaches as well. They’ve been bringing me in for meetings on things like what to do in and out of possession, which helped me a lot going into this game.
“That was the perfect start and I had other opportunities where I could have got in the box more and could have had more chances.
“But for the first game, I was happy to get a first goal and hopefully in the next couple of games I’ll get more.
“I’m looking forward to the season, especially playing against more men’s teams. That will help me and develop my character, so I’m pleased about that and looking forward to it.”
B Team boss Matt Craddock was also pleased with what he saw from Bryan on his first Bolton outing.
“It was a really good way for Trevon to introduce himself to us,” the manager explained.
“He’s got a lot of talent and he needs to add that to his work rate, which we saw in parts. He looks a real handful and I was pleased for him.”
