Trevon Bryan scored a stunner on his first outing as Wanderers’ B Team drew 1-1 against Lancaster City.
The young forward, who joined the Whites’ ranks after leaving Burnley this summer, provided a moment of magic for the fans in attendance at the Giant Axe.
Matt Craddock handed starts to five youngsters who featured for the first team against Curzon Ashton on Tuesday night, while Sam Inwood started on the bench.
Ben Andreucci and Charlie Hayes-Green were also named in the starting line-up after joining from Leeds and Liverpool respectively.
Wanderers went ahead after just a couple of minutes when Bryan gave Andre Mendes absolutely no chance with a thumping strike from outside the area.
Max Conway then drove at the Lancaster defence and tried his luck from distance, but his effort was slightly too high.
The Whites had a let-off moments later when Dom Lawson skipped past his man and saw a low drive ricochet off the post.
Christian Sloan also had a half-chance, but his first-time effort was easy for Luke Hutchinson to deal with in the Bolton goal.
Lawson continued to look lively as the first half went on and was later denied by a good block by Noah Halford.
Hutchinson nearly made a costly error on the stroke of half time, giving the ball away cheaply, but the hosts couldn’t capitalise and Wanderers managed to clear their lines.
Craddock made five changes at the break, with Ellis Litherland, Inwood, Sonny Sharples and a couple of trialists joining the fray.
Lancaster got back on level terms early in the second half when Toure was caught on the ball, allowing a trialist to get in behind and slot past Litherland.
Another trialist then had an effort saved by the Bolton goalkeeper low to his left after the ball dropped nicely on the edge of the area.
The young Whites continued to face pressure from their non-league opposition, with Litherland clawing away a cross before Charlie Barnes’ scuffed shot was blocked.
Finlay Lockett, Gio Loureiro, Sean Hogan and Joe Toole were also brought on in the second half to get minutes under their belts, while the remaining trialists also got a run-out.
Nic Evangelinos had a decent chance with 15 minutes to go but couldn’t keep his header down after getting on the end of an inviting cross from the left.
A Lancaster trialist then looked to pounce on Hogan’s loose touch, but Inwood made a vital challenge as he was about to pull the trigger.
Jake Connelly also had an opportunity to find a winner in the final stages, but Litherland made a heroic save to tip his header round the post.
Wanderers also could have won it at the death when a trialist had an effort saved by the legs of the goalkeeper from a tight angle.
Hutchinson (Litherland 45), Frimpong (Trialist 70), Hayes-Green (Inwood 45), Toure (Toole 70), Halford (Hogan 70), Conway (Lockett 60), Khumbeni (Trialist 60), Pettifer (Loureiro 60), Tweedley (Sharples 45), Andreucci (Trialist 45), Bryan (Trialist 45)
