Former Arsenal and England star Theo Walcott is reportedly training with League One rivals Reading ahead of the upcoming season.
Walcott made more than 300 appearances during a memorable 12-year spell with the Gunners and went on to have stints at Everton and Southampton.
He also won 47 England caps, becoming the Three Lions’ youngest-ever player after making his debut at the age of 17.
The 32-year-old is currently a free agent after departing Southampton at the end of his contract following the Saints’ relegation from the Premier League.
Walcott is now training with the Reading squad as they prepare for life in the third tier, according to a report by The Reading Chronicle.
However, it remains to be seen whether it is solely for fitness or if a longer-term move to the Berkshire club is in mind.
Reading recently appointed former Southampton boss Ruban Selles, who worked with Walcott at St Mary’s last season, providing his work visa is accepted.
The Royals were relegated from the Championship last term, with Noel Hunt stepping up from his role as Under-21 head coach to take charge of the final five games.
The wideman was also linked with a move to Reading last summer when Paul Ince was in charge, but a move didn’t materialise at the time.
Ahead of his final Southampton appearance, Walcott wrote on social media: "I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone at Southampton - it’s a fantastic club with incredible people.
“I am really disappointed for the fans that we weren’t able to stay in the Premier League this season, but I am certain the club will be back there again soon.
“Thanks to all of you for your support right back to my debut aged 16 years old. I would like to wish the team and fans every success for the future.
“My aim is to continue playing and I’m looking forward to the next challenge.”
