Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has committed his future to Bolton Wanderers by signing a new one-year deal.
The Icelandic striker was the last remaining unknown quantity from last season’s squad, having been offered a new contract in the retained list.
It is understood there is an option to extend the contract by another 12 months, based on appearances.
Bodvarsson scored eight goals for the Whites last season but could only watch from the side-lines from January onwards after damaging his ankle in the 3-0 win against Portsmouth.
Overall he has played 48 times for the club and scored 15 goals since signing from Millwall last January.
“I’m really happy to have extended my stay here at the club. It’s a club that I’m very proud to be a part of,” he said.
“My family and I feel like we’re at home here, the fans and the people of the community are brilliant. The direction and the ambition of the club is also positive. I want to be a part of it.”
Having overcome a spell on the sidelines in the second half of the season, Böðvarsson is eyeing a productive pre-season and is looking to make his mark in the Wanderers side next campaign.
“It was very frustrating to be out with an injury for the last four months of the season," he said.
"It was quite new to me to be out for that long, so mentally it was a challenge. Luckily, I was in good hands with the physios who were fantastic and helped me get back.
"Now I am fine and just looking forward to a good pre-season to get my fitness going again.”
Though last season ended in disappointment, Bodvarsson believes a fifth-placed finish and a Papa Johns Trophy win was a big step in the right direction for the club, overall.
“I think last season was a step in the right direction,” he said.
“We won the final at Wembley which was a great day for the club and fans, and we reached the Play-Offs. But I think all of us - players, staff and the community as a whole - want to go even further next season and hopefully be promoted.”
Bodvarsson's Bolton career to date has been flecked with misfortune, not least on the injury front. But the former Reading and Wolves man is now determined to ensure fans see the best of him next season on the pitch.
“The fans at this club are special, they really are,” he said.
“They’ve welcomed me with open arms from day one and made not just me, but my family really feel at home. I always do my best to return the favour by doing my best on the pitch and winning games.”
