EFL pundit Adrian Clarke reckons Wanderers and Barnsley have an advantage heading into the League One play-offs.
The Whites secured their place in the top six following a professional 2-0 win against Fleetwood last weekend.
Sheffield Wednesday will also be in the play-offs, while Derby and Peterborough will battle it out for the remaining spot on the final day.
Wednesday were favourites for the league title at one stage following an impressive 23-match unbeaten run under Darren Moore.
However, a dip in form saw the Owls lose ground to Plymouth and Ipswich in the race for automatic promotion.
And former Arsenal winger Clarke believes missing out on the top two could "play on their minds".
Clarke also reckons the Wanderers' emphatic Wembley win against Plymouth will give them a major boost as they aim to win promotion back to the Championship.
He told What The EFL?! Podcast: "Do I fancy (Wednesday) in the play-offs? Actually no because of previous things.
"Because of them falling away at the end - with that little bit of a blip at Forest Green and then a few games without a win - it might play on their minds.
"But I also think Barnsley and Bolton are two best match players in the division. In a one-off game, we saw what Bolton are capable of (in the Papa Johns Trophy final against Plymouth).
“I watched Barnsley beat Sheffield Wednesday not that long ago and I wouldn't bank against them doing it again."
Ian Evatt's men conclude their League One campaign with a trip to the Memorial Stadium to take on Bristol Rovers this weekend.
The points were shared when the sides met at the UniBol in December, with Dion Charles scoring a dramatic late equaliser after Josh Coburn had opened the scoring.
The Whites’ last win in the fixture came in October 2019, with Luke and Daryl Murphy both getting on the scoresheet that day.
