EFL pundit Dean Ashton reckons Wanderers are capable of being “a match for anybody” in the play-offs.
Ian Evatt’s men secured a place in the top six following a 2-0 win against Fleetwood over the weekend.
The Whites went in front through a Promise Omochere own goal and Kyle Dempsey wrapped up the result 12 minutes from time.
Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley will also be in the play-offs, while Derby and Peterborough will battle for the remaining spot on the final day.
Former West Ham striker Ashton has been impressed with Wanderers over the past season and admits it is tough to call who will be joining Plymouth and Ipswich in the Championship next season.
Speaking as a pundit on the EFL highlights show, he said: “It is going to be difficult, it is going to be super competitive.
“But I think they have shown all season, at their best, they are going to be a match for anybody.”
One of the major talking points at the weekend was Jayden Stockley’s red card following an incident with MJ Williams off the ball.
Stockley was judged to have pulled the Bolton man’s hair, and Ashton praised the officials for spotting it.
“You can’t go grabbing a player’s mane and clearly that was spotted,” he added. “It was well spotted because we have had to look at it quite a few times.
“But you can’t really complain if you’re going to do that, it is silly.”
Ex-Reading winger Jobi McAnuff had a similar take on the incident, which occurred 13 minutes into the second half.
“Stockley does something that he probably feels he has gotten away with initially,” he said. “There is a little tap on the back of the head as well.
“Again, it is a situation that we have to say the officials got right. You are not allowed to pull hair, it is as simple as that.”
Wanderers conclude their league campaign with a trip to the Memorial Stadium to take on Bristol Rovers on Sunday, May 7 (12pm).
