WANDERERS (3-4-1-2).
JAMES TRAFFORD…6.5.
Not sure he could have done more with the goal – and otherwise his catching was clean on a few dangerous crosses slung into the penalty area.
GETHIN JONES…5.5.
Didn’t seem to link up as effectively as he can do with Bradley. By no means the only guilty party – but possession was all a bit laboured.
MJ WILLIAMS…6.
Saw more of the ball than anyone and looked frustrated at times with the lack of options ahead of him in a congested midfield.
GEORGE JOHNSTON…6.
Defended well, especially in the air, but did suffer from the same link-up problems as Jones on the left side.
CONOR BRADLEY…6.5.
Kept on going and got beyond the uncompromising Rodgers a few times. Not much went right on the night.
AARON MORLEY…5.
Will want to forget this one. Poor pass led to the Accrington goal and Morley looked out of sorts on the ball for most of the night before being hooked.
JOSH SHEEHAN…5.5.
Missed one big chance immediately after the goal, which was a big turning point in the game. Game enough and looked to find gaps.
DECLAN JOHN…6.
Put in the cross of the night for Dempsey in the first half, and saw little of the ball after that, which was disappointing.
KYLE DEMPSEY…7.
Bolton’s most effective player on the night. Always looked to be positive, even though Accrington’s defence was not for shifting.
DION CHARLES…5.5.
Had a half-decent opportunity in the first half after swapping passes with Dempsey, undone by a heavy touch. Will not be pleased to lose out against his old club.
DAN NLUNDULU…5.
Tried hard to get things going but found it difficult to move the ball at the right time and rarely seemed to play towards the Stanley goal.
Subs: Shoretire 5, 59 (for Morley) – Ended up as a left wing-back, which was surprising.
Jerome 5, 59 (for Nlundulu) – Really had little impact.
Kachunga 5, 67 (for Charles) – One header but little else.
Adeboyejo 71 (for John) – Struggled to make a dent.
Not used: Lee, Thomason, R Williams.
Accrington Stanley (5-3-2): Jensen; Clark, Nottingham, Rodgers, Tharme, McConville; Hamilton, Martin, Connelly; Lowe, Pressley.
Subs: Longelo 52 (for McConville), Quirk 71 (for Conneely), Whalley 71 (for Lowe).
Not used: Savin, Sangare, Nolan, Butler.
Referee: James Linnington 5/10 – Not the cause of Bolton’s defeat but his inability to stop Accrington slowing the game down certainly amped up the frustration factor. Won’t be on Ian Evatt’s Christmas card list.
Attendance: 17,406
