Wanderers earned a hard-fought 1-0 win against Exeter, but which players caught the eye at St James Park?
JAMES TRAFFORD…6.5
Commanded his box well despite facing a barrage of crosses into the box, particularly in the second half. Made a decent stop to deny Nombe at his near post at one stage.
GETHIN JONES…7
Stepped up as captain in Ricardo Santos’ absence and commanded the backline effectively. Continues to be reliable for the Whites despite being used in a variety of defensive roles over the past season.
GEORGE JOHNSTON…8
Was thrown right in at the deep end in his first start since late January but defended well to keep the Grecians at bay. Usually plays as a wide centre-back but did a commendable job in the middle of the back three.
LUKE MBETE…7
Had a couple of nervy moments early on but recovered well and played his part in an impressive defensive display. The experience will do him a world of good as he continues his development while on loan from Manchester City.
CONOR BRADLEY…7
Took his goal well after making an intelligent run in behind and looked lively every time he got the chance to get forward. Is now up to seven goals for the season and ironically his last also came against Exeter.
JOSH SHEEHAN…7
Produced a moment of magic to set up Bradley’s goal and continues to shine in the middle of the pitch for Wanderers. Has gone from strength to strength since forcing his way back into Evatt’s starting XI.
AARON MORLEY…6
One of his quieter games but still looked tidy on the ball. Could have had an assist with a wicket corner delivery during the opening 45 minutes.
DECLAN JOHN…6
Didn’t affect the game as much as he would have hoped and was taken off at half time. After the game, Evatt explained the Welshman had been struggling with illness in the build-up but powered through to make the starting line-up.
KYLE DEMPSEY…7
Another positive performance from the midfielder after his Wembley heroics. Won the ball back high up the pitch on several occasions with his intense pressing and could have had an assist on another day.
ELIAS KACHUNGA…6.5
Worked hard as always and got into some dangerous positions on the right with some clever footwork. Got a great reception from the away fans when he left the pitch and seems to be playing with confidence after a tough spell earlier in the campaign.
DION CHARLES…6.5
Pressed from the front as usual and got in dangerous positions on a couple of occasions. Perhaps could have done better with a chance in the first half after creating a pocket of space, but he had to take it with his left foot.
