WANDERERS have reported no fresh injuries ahead of the Papa Johns Trophy final against Plymouth Argyle – with George Johnston and MJ Williams back in contention for a starting spot.
Defender, Johnston, has been out of action since January when he damaged his ankle playing in the 2-1 win at Charlton Athletic, with midfielder, Williams, missing a similar amount of time after a clean-up operation on his knee.
Both players came through a behind-closed-doors friendly with Rotherham United last week, which Bolton won 3-1 with goals from Declan John, Kyle Dempsey and Elias Kachunga.
Wanderers were not expecting any problems with the remaining players to return from the international fold.
James Trafford was taken off after 45 minutes of England Under-21s’ 2-1 defeat to Croatia but seemingly to give fellow keeper Josh Griffiths some game time in the second half.
Fellow Manchester City loanee Luke Mbete did not feature for England’s Under-20s in their draw with France in Marbella, and should be fit to start at Wembley, if needed.
Shola Shoretire, Dan Nludulu and Victor Adeboyejo are cup-tied for the final, and it is unlikely that Lloyd Isgrove will shake off a minor injury sustained playing for the B Team in time to feature.
Jack Iredale and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson are both out of action until the end of the season.
Evatt said his Northern Irish trio also returned in high spirits from their Euro 2024 qualifiers, not least Eoin Toal, who despite not starting against San Marino and Finland, found himself rewarded with a very special shirt number.
“It looks like a clean slate," said the Wanderers boss. The Irish lads came back looking good – I thought Conor Bradley was outstanding, Dion Charles obviously got his goals, and even though Eoin Toal didn’t get on the pitch, he got the call-up and ended up wearing number seven, which was George Best’s number, which isn’t bad at all. He has a big smile on his face for that too.”
Midfielder Kieran Lee predicts a close game and has been impressed by the way the Pilgrims have maintained their title charge in League One.
“Plymouth keep on getting results and they are top of the table for a reason," he said. "Obviously we're in for a tough game but we are confident in what we have got.
"We’ll go there expecting to win, and I’m sure so will they, but hopefully we can come out on top."
