Ian Evatt has assembled a healthy mix of youth and experience at Wanderers, but how does their average squad age compare to the rest of the division?
The Whites are currently sixth in the League One table and are right in the mix for a play-off spot heading into the business end of the season.
According to data from Wyscout, the average age of Evatt’s squad is 25.7 years following several new arrivals in the January window. This is a slight increase from earlier in the season.
However, the Bolton boss isn't afraid to put his faith in younger players, with the likes of Conor Bradley, Aaron Morley and James Trafford all playing important roles.
Experience has paid off so far for Sheffield Wednesday, who currently sit second in the table with a couple of games in hand over leaders Plymouth. The Owls have the highest average squad age this season at 29.2 years.
Eighth-place Wycombe and fifth-place Derby also rank high in the list, with average figures of 28.3 years and 27.3 years respectively.
Barnsley’s figures are a bit of an outlier – Michael Duff’s side sit fourth in the table despite boasting the youngest squad in the third tier.
Lincoln (24 years), Forest Green (24.1 years) and Fleetwood (24.3 years) are also among the younger squads in the division.
Wanderers have the 11th highest figure overall, which puts them just above the likes of Cambridge, MK Dons, Plymouth and Cheltenham.
