Plymouth midfielder Adam Randell is battling to be back available for next month’s Papa Johns Trophy final against Wanderers.

The 22-year-old hasn’t featured since suffering an ankle sprain during the 3-1 victory against Portsmouth last month.

Boss Steven Schumacher told Plymouth Live Randell is “progressing well” with his recovery from the injury.

The Pilgrims head to Accrington Stanley tonight (7.45pm) and will be aiming to gain ground on current leaders Sheffield Wednesday.

Tyreik Wright could return to the squad following a calf issue, but captain Joe Edwards is a doubt with a tight hamstring.

Meanwhile, Conor Grant is back available after recovering from a torn thigh muscle that kept him sidelined for several months.

Plymouth have an 11-day break between their trip to Accrington and next month’s Wembley final against the Whites.

Schumacher said: "It is what it is. I think there is a few teams that are not playing because of the international weekend and we have got a Wembley final - I think everyone is okay with that!

"We are going to go to Wembley and have a final against Bolton, which will be a great game, so this is our last chance to put points on the board in the league for a couple of weeks.

"If we can do that, that would be brilliant and then we have to wait until Easter weekend to play again in the league. It probably makes this result (against Accrington) even more important."

He added: "When you do have a few niggles, which is inevitable at this stage of the season, we are glad we have got good players who can come in and take the places."

The points were shared when Wanderers faced Plymouth at the UniBol back in January following a goalless draw.

The Whites suffered a 2-0 defeat at Home Park earlier in the season after goals from Niall Ennis and Ryan Hardie.
