Former Wanderers striker Nathan Delfouneso has opened up about his move to National League North side AFC Fylde.

Delfouneso left the UniBol last summer after his contract expired, having made 67 appearances for the Whites.

The 32-year-old also had a stint at Accrington earlier this season and has now signed a deal at Mill Farm until the end of the campaign.

Delfouneso marked his debut by scoring the only goal in Saturday’s 1-0 victory against Alfreton Town, heading home at the far post 10 minutes from time.

The forward is keen to enjoy his football after a tough spell and wants to help the Coasters secure promotion to the top tier of the non-league pyramid.

“I knew a few people who were here anyway, that’s players and staff,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.

“I thank them for being very welcoming to me, they have looked after me really well. I want to enjoy playing football and I have come here to contribute and help this team try and achieve their goal, which is obviously to go up.

“Thankfully, today I was able to help. But it is only one game, there is still plenty to go and there is still a job to be done.”

Fylde currently sit top of the table – two points above second-place King’s Lynn, who have played two extra matches at this stage.

“I am happy I was able to come on and help the team get the three points,” Delfouneso added. “I thought they did well.

“It was a tough game against a team that plays a little bit differently to how we do, so we knew it was going to be difficult.

“We knew there would be parts of the game where we would have to grind it out, and I thought we did really well. The shift everyone put in – on a difficult, heavy pitch at times – and they showed quality as well.”
