Former Cambridge boss Shaun Derry reckons Wanderers’ 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday is “a big, big point”.

The hosts went in front when Lee Gregory’s deflected strike from inside the box found a way past James Trafford.

But the Whites hit back through Victor Adeboyejo nine minutes before the break, tucking home after a neat move down the right wing. The forward has now scored twice since joining from Burton in the January window.

Dion Charles also had a penalty appeal waved away by referee Sam Purkiss during the second half after tangling with Aden Flint in the box.

Derry was impressed with Wanderers’ display against the league leaders, who have now gone 23 games unbeaten in total.

Speaking as a pundit on the EFL highlights show, he said: “23 games undefeated for Sheffield Wednesday is absolutely incredible, isn’t it?

“Darren Moore and his team have just been brilliant from start to finish. You would expect them to get promoted, of course.

“But this is a big draw for Bolton. Ian Evatt’s team have gone there, still sitting in sixth position in the league and four points above Peterborough in seventh.

“They have had a great season as well and it was a big, big point.”

Several results went the Whites’ way on Saturday afternoon, with Derby losing 2-0 against Fleetwood and Wycombe suffering a 1-0 defeat against Barnsley.

Evatt’s men remain behind fifth-place Derby on goal difference, although the Rams have played a game fewer at this stage.

Wanderers now have a two-week break ahead of their highly anticipated Papa Johns Trophy final against Plymouth.

The Pilgrims ran out 2-0 winners against struggling Forest Green over the weekend after goals from James Bolton and Bali Mumba either side of half-time.
