WANDERERS (3-4-1-2).
JAMES TRAFFORD…5.
Really seemed to sum up that early uncertainty with some wayward kicking and one bad decision with a back-pass. Much better than that.
GETHIN JONES…5.
Won’t want to look back at a couple of the goals, where he conceded far too much space. Those errors masked over some decent work.
RICARDO SANTOS…6.
Pick of the back three, handling Bishop fairly well until the bitter end. Now has to play the captain’s role and get the players back on a roll.
EOIN TOAL…5.5.
Played on the left side of the three after Jones came back into the side and didn’t look nearly as comfortable as he has in the last couple of months.
CONOR BRADLEY…5.5.
Four high-tempo games against Wycombe, Accrington, Port Vale and Pompey since February 18 is asking a lot. It is little wonder he looked jaded.
AARON MORLEY…5.5.
Set pieces were hit and miss, so spent much of a frantic game picking around the edges. Not his kind of occasion.
KYLE DEMPSEY…5.5.
Might well have settled the game with his chance after Charles’s goal. Didn’t impose himself quite as well as he had managed at the weekend.
DECLAN JOHN…6.
Reintroduced to the starting line-up and looked one of the fresher players on the pitch. His impact waned after the hour mark, though.
KIERAN LEE…5.
Unusually wasteful on the ball. A really out-of-character performance from one of Bolton’s most reliable types.
DION CHARLES…7.
Scored his 18th goal of the season and ran hard all night, chasing defenders. Had to be saved for Morecambe in the end.
SHOLA SHORETIRE…6.5.
Quiet early on but had a purple patch after half time where Pompey struggled to live with him. Need more of that.
Subs: Kachunga 72 (for Shoretire), Nlundulu 79 (for Charles), Sheehan 86 (for Lee).
Not used: Isgrove, R Williams, Mbete, Adeboyejo.
Portsmouth (4-2-3-1): Macey; Rafferty, Raggett, Towler, Ogilvie; Tunicliffe, Morrell; Dale, Jacobs, Curtis; Bishop.
Subs: Scarlett 67 (for Jacobs), Piggott 81 (for Curtis) Not used: Oluwayemi, Bernard, Thompson, Lowery, Lane, Piggott.
Referee: Stephen Martin 5/10 – Reached for his cards right away and fell for some of the Pompey game-playing. But not the reason Wanderers came away empty-handed from Fratton Park.
Attendance: 17,132 (592)
