Finlay Heath featured as a trialist as Wanderers’ B Team were beaten 2-0 by Huddersfield in the Central League.

Conor Wells opened the scoring on the stroke of half time after pouncing on a mistake by Nelson Khumbeni, before Kyle Hudlin added a second from close range during the final stages.

George Thomason played over an hour for Matt Craddock’s side – the midfielder's first appearance since dislocating his knee and tearing a ligament during the 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers back in December.

Thomason nearly managed to get on the scoresheet during the second half but was denied by a fine stop by Michael Acquah.

Player-coach Andrew Tutte also returned to the side following a spell out of action due to injury, playing the opening 45 minutes before making way for Abdul Kamara.

Heath played the full game as part of the back three and showed some promising signs during the first half, making several important blocks.

The young defender was also involved in a controversial decision in the build-up to the second goal. Wanderers felt he was fouled but the referee waved play on, allowing Hudlin to slot home.

Heath moved to the Isle of Man at the age of 13 and represented the national team at Under-13 level, captaining the side against Crusaders in Belfast.

He moved back to the UK in 2018 and had a stint at Dynamo Rangers before making the move to Buxton, where he made the bench at first-team level on several occasions.

The defender has been a regular starter for AFC Liverpool this season in the North West Counties League, scoring against Charnock Richard and Lower Breck.

The Little Reds currently sit seventh in the table, having won 17 of their 33 league fixtures since the start of the campaign.

The B Team’s next scheduled fixture is a trip to leaders Accrington Stanley on Tuesday, March 28 (2pm).
