Daisy Hill will be looking to end their recent poor run of form when they travel to face Runcorn Town in the North West Counties League First Division North tomorrow.
Last Saturday’s defeat at Garstang was Daisy’s sixth game without a win, although they will be up against a Runcorn Town side who are deep in relegation trouble.
Town ended a run of five straight defeats with a win at AFC Blackpool last Saturday, but go into the game on the back of a 6-1 thrashing at Bacup Borough on Wednesday night.
The game has some added spice as Daisy’s joint manager Matt Barnes was in charge at Runcorn Town until late November, when he left and joined Daisy a few days later.
Since then, Jack Coop, Harry Hatton and Niall Sultan, who played for Barnes at Runcorn Town, have followed him to New Sirs.
But Barnes insists his presence in the away dugout is unlikely to be a big issue, with both sides desperate to pick up points.
“Runcorn’s chips are probably down more than ours at the minute,” said Barnes.
“They have a young side who have been struggling, and I suppose they will be doing everything they can to get one over on me and the team.
“But taking away anything that is personal, we have got to be looking at picking up three points ourselves.
“We go there after a week in training and away from training where we have looked at what personnel we need, what balance we need in the squad, and what we have to do to get the win.
“The work behind the scenes that we are doing off the pitch can’t be questioned, but we’ve not been having much luck in recent weeks, although I am a big believer that you create your own luck.
“We will be going to Runcorn with a positive mindset, and that what we have been working hard on this week.”
