Lostock AC members were out competing at a variety of events last weekend, returning good times and fine displays.

Saturday saw the annual Standish 10k where three club members competed on an undulating course, completely off road on bridle ways and woodland trails.

First Lostocker to cross the finish line was Paul Edwards in 42mins 25secs. Johanna McManus was next to follow in 55:21 and Rachel Stevens finished in 1:03:24.

Elsewhere, the latest instalment in the South East Lancs Cross Country League took place on Saturday.

Lostock were not able to muster a female or male team, but stalwart Gillian Caldwell was there with Samantha Sale in support and James Jackson and Mark Shuttleworth coming back from injury were the male contingent for the club.

And there was some good running from all four Lostock competitors at Heaton Park.

Sale had a great run, finishing seventh overall and first V45 in 33:46, with club-mate Caldwell also finishing first in her age category in 52:43.

Jackson, also having a great run, crossed the line in 47:00, followed by Shuttleworth in 52:06.

In Lancashire, five Lostockers travelled to Bowland to take part in the Bleasdale Circle fell race.

Starting from the parish hall, the race crosses wet and muddy farmland for a mile, passing Bleasdale Circle and on to Higher Fairsnape Farm.

From there, the route continues on a gradual climb for a mile up a farm track until it reaches the open fell and a very steep ascent up rough grass and rocks to the summit of Paddy’s Pole.

The route then descends across the tops on a fell path before a short steep climb to Parlick - where the fun begins.

Then it is a fantastic steep, grassy descent back down to the farmland and a mile or so of muddy tracks to the finish.

First to cross the line for Lostock and finishing second lady was Josie Greenhalgh in 49:49.

Next over the line were Greg Kilshaw and Rachel Hancock, finishing in 1:00:36 and 1:01:35 respectively, followed by Mark Checkley (1:13:32) with Amanda Smith in hot pursuit in 1:14:32.

On Sunday, Sale, Rachel Hancock, McManus and Stevens, fresh from racing the day before, were accompanied by Mike Berry and Stephen Hancock joining more than 250 runners to compete in the Bolton 5k.

This is a flat, fast road race around the outskirts of Leverhulme Park on pavements and paths, which is part of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix series.

This was a very fast race with some impressive times.

Sale crossed the finish line first for Lostock in an epic 21:46, followed by McManus in 22:36 and Rachel Hancock in 23:55.

Berry was next over the line in 24:09, with Stevens and Stephen Hancock following in 26:06 and 27:13 respectively.
