Gareth Ainsworth says beating Wanderers is “a great scalp” for his Wycombe side following their 1-0 victory at Adams Park.
Lewis Wing got the decisive goal on the stroke of half time, beating James Trafford after a clever corner routine.
Gethin Jones hit the bar for the Whites, while Cameron Jerome also had a couple of penalty appeals turned down in the second half.
Ainsworth told the club’s website: “I’m really proud of everybody. Bolton are a really great team – good management, good people and fantastic fans.
“They never stopped singing, just like three years ago when they were on the brink of administration. It is a big, big club and it is a great scalp.”
He added: “They have got some really good attackers. Dempsey is great from midfield. Dion Charles has scored lots of goals this season.
“They needed attention, and it was about being there as the ball arrives with people. The boys really took that on for me today.”
Ainsworth was delighted with his side’s defensive display to deal with a Bolton attack that had scored 10 times in their last two matches.
“I thought again we were secure at the back. Max (Stryjek) really didn’t have too much to do,” he explained.
“He had an overhead kick which I think was going wide and the one on target with the boy in the middle, but we were definitely the aggressors.
“Vokesy (Sam Vokes) almost had one at the back stick – a header in the first half. I am really, really pleased with he way we are playing at the moment."
When asked about Wing’s goal, the Wycombe chief said: “It’s a hell of a strike. He’s one of the few players in the division that could do that.”
The result sees Wanderers slip to fourth in the League One table after Ipswich ran out 4-0 winners against Forest Green.
Meanwhile, the Chairboys are three points behind six-place Barnsley and have now won five matches on the spin.
