Michael Appleton hailed Wanderers following back-to-back 5-0 victories against Peterborough and MK Dons.
Ricardo Santos, Luke Mbete, Gethin Jones, Eoin Toal and Randell Williams were all on target against the Dons in midweek.
Ian Evatt’s men have now won five successive matches and are up to third in the League One table.
But the Bolton boss isn’t getting carried away ahead of Saturday’s clash with promotion rivals Wycombe at Adams Park.
Appleton understands Evatt’s thinking and says it is crucial that the Whites don’t rest on their laurels heading into the business stage of the season.
Speaking as a pundit on the EFL highlights show, the former Blackpool boss said: “I can understand it to a point.
“Obviously, you don’t want the standards to drop and that is the biggest thing they will be looking for from the players.
“They have done ever so well to get into the position they are at this moment in time.
“He just doesn’t want them to take their foot off the gas, he wants to keep them on the front foot all the time, pressing forward and looking to improve.”
Wanderers are currently six points behind second-place Sheffield Wednesday, although they have played two extra games at this stage.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s opponents find themselves seventh in the table and have won their last five league matches.
The Whites recorded a 3-0 victory when the sides met at the University of Bolton Stadium back in August, with Kyle Dempsey bagging a brace and Aaron Morley also on target.
Evatt’s men were beaten 1-0 on their last trip to Adams Park in November 2021, with Sam Vokes getting the decisive goal that day.
