Daisy Hill will be looking to break their run of games without a win when they travel to face Garstang in the North West Counties League First Division North on Saturday, writes Ian Templeman.

It’s now over a month since Daisy last recorded a victory, and they go into the trip to the Riverside Stadium on the back of three successive defeats.

However, despite the loss to Steeton last weekend, Daisy joint-manager Matt Barnes believes that a performance of similar quality should be enough to end the bad run of results.

“A couple of weeks ago after losing to F C St Helens, it was almost like everyone wasn’t looking forward to the next game,” said Barnes.

“But after our performance last week against Steeton, you can take a lot of positives from that.

“We were looking forward to getting into training this week and we kept instilling in the players what we are about.”

Saturday’s opponents Garstang picked up a point from a 2-2 draw earlier in the season at New Sirs, and Barnes believes that past experience of facing the Lancashire side will work in his side’s favour.

“I know a few of the lads up at Garstang, and when I was at Runcorn Town earlier in the season, we beat them.

“They are a team where, if you can stop certain players, it disrupts their momentum, and that is what we have got to do.

“We have a game plan to go into the game, and that will give us every opportunity to go there and pick up three points.

“We are definitely capable of doing that, and hopefully this Saturday will be the turning point in our luck.

“We still want to push for a promotion spot, but for now it’s just about finishing as high as possible, and kicking on to finish the season on a positive note.”
