Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth says Saturday’s clash with Wanderers is “another huge game”.
The Chairboys have won their last four matches and are currently seventh in the League One table – three points off the play-off places.
Ainsworth hopes his side can continue their strong form but admits it is tough at this stage of the season, with games coming thick and fast.
The 49-year-old told Bucks Free Press: “The players will have Wednesday off and they will come in later on Thursday as we’re now getting to the stage where we are playing three games a week.
“We have Bolton on Saturday which will be another huge game and all these fixtures in quick succession does take its toll on the players.”
Wycombe ran out 2-0 winners at struggling Accrington on Tuesday night after goals from Josh Scowen and Garath McCleary.
Ainsworth was pleased with his side’s defensive resilience and hopes they can build on their performances of late.
“It was a really tough performance, but I am really pleased with how things are going at the moment,” he added.
“This is a tough place to come, and I said to the boys that I was going to change the back from a four to a five at around 60 minutes as Accrington looked really dangerous.
“But again, we defended solidly, and overall, it was a great win on the road in what has been a hard place for us in recent seasons.”
Jordan Willis made only his second appearance of the season, having recently recovered from a long-term knee injury.
The former Sunderland defender was forced off just before the hour mark, but Ainsworth says it was just cramp.
He explained: “Jordan Willis came in and he hasn’t played in a long time, so when he was cramping up after half-time, this is normal when you haven’t played for a while but when he was called into action, he was imperious.”
Wanderers recorded a 3-0 victory when the sides met at the University of Bolton Stadium back in August, with Kyle Dempsey bagging a brace and Aaron Morley also on target.
Evatt’s men were beaten 1-0 on their last trip to Adams Park in November 2021, with Sam Vokes getting the decisive goal that day.
