To mark our historic 5,000 league match, we all went ‘Posh’ to take on Peterborough United, who themselves have been the ‘Posh’ since 1934, when the manager of Fletton United reportedly said that he was ‘looking for posh players for a new posh team’.

As we dismounted from our coach, we were directed to the Leendert-R, a 116 years old barge which used to sail the waterways of Belgium, Holland and Germany, carrying grain and sand.

Now it is a bar and restaurant, serving real ales and a variety of cuisine and I settled on a bacon and cheese burger and the excellent Bishops Farewell ale.

The Weston Homes stadium has a modern feel to it as we sat in the new Deskgo stand, observing their motley trio of mascots, Mr Posh, Dusty Hall the rabbit and some Bob the Builder tribute, representing Weston Homes. Ian Evatt shuffled his pack and brought in Luke Mbete for his first start.

After surviving some early pressure from a lively Peterborough attack, we snatched the lead, through of all people Rico Santos, netting his first ever goal for the Wanderers. From that point, we played them off the park as Dion Charles chipped in with a brilliant hat-trick and just like with the buses, we had waited for a Santos goal for ages, two came along in the same match.

This was a stunning 5-star performance and watching the Wanderers does not get much better than this. You have to go back to March 2014 at Leeds United, for the last time we scored 5 goals away from home. Others may remember the 5-0 demolition of Leicester City in August 2001. I think that I’ll be dining out on this match for ages.

Our confidence and expectations have rocketed after this match as we moved into fourth position. But let us not get ahead of ourselves. There are 15 more league matches to go and each one will be a tough challenge in their own ways. We need to take one match at a time. We are all together as the excitement rises.
