Wanderers midfielder Aaron Morley has been nominated for the League One Goal of the Month award for January.

Morley found the top corner with a superb free kick during the 2-1 win against Charlton at the Valley, giving the goalkeeper no chance.

Ian Evatt’s men went on to secure a 2-1 victory that day, with Dion Charles also getting on the scoresheet after the break.

Morley has become a key member of the side in recent months, forming an effective partnership with Kyle Dempsey in the middle of the pitch.

His performances have helped the Whites consolidate their place in the top six heading into the business stage of the campaign.

It isn’t the first free kick Morley has scored this season. The midfielder also produced a pinpoint effort against Manchester United Under-21s in the Papa Johns Trophy back in December.

He now faces competition from Sheffield Wednesday’s Will Vaulks, Derby’s Max Bird and Barnsley’s James Norwood for the prize.

Vaulks scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory against Wycombe, beating Max Stryjek with a thumping strike from distance.

Bird also scored from well outside the penalty area, helping Derby record a 3-2 win against Cheltenham at Whaddon Road.

Meanwhile, Norwood showed his agility with a bicycle kick from close range during a 3-1 victory against Accrington.

Supporters can choose their winner HERE and the public vote will be combined with the views of a judging panel made up of EFL experts Don Goodman and David Prutton. The vote closes at 5pm on Monday, February 13.

Morley could feature tomorrow afternoon when Wanderers make the trip to London Road to take on promotion rivals Peterborough.

Darren Ferguson’s side have racked up three successive victories in the league as they aim to climb into the play-off places.
