Wanderers fans will get the chance to watch some former stars in action this afternoon in the Generations Cup.
The event was created to pay homage to the FA Cup and has been described as “the ultimate dream football”.
The Whites have won the historic competition four times in their history, with their most recent success coming in 1958 following a 2-0 victory against Manchester United at Wembley. The legendary Nat Lofthouse scored twice that day.
John McGinlay will manage a Bolton side featuring Nicky Hunt, David Lee and many more names.
The other clubs confirmed to be involved are Blackpool, Preston North End, Liverpool Ramblers, Turton and Darwen.
Turton will be managed by Wanderers legend Sam Allardyce along with his son Craig, while former Bolton defender Colin Hendry is set to feature for Blackpool.
The competition takes place at the Anchor Ground in Darwen and each side will play two 30-minute games. The two group winners will advance to the final event in March, which takes place at St George’s Park, the base of the England national team.
Two clubs will also progress from the southern section, and last year’s competition was won by Crystal Palace.
A maximum of five players under the age of 40 are allowed on the pitch at the same time and there must always be at least three players aged 50 or over involved in the action.
Food and refreshments will be available for anyone attending the event throughout the day in the café and Salmoners Lounge.
