Cameron Jerome is expecting a tough test against Cheltenham this afternoon – and says Wanderers need to find ways to “unlock the door”.
Th Whites have struggled at times this season against sides who sit back and try to be effective on the break.
Jerome says they need to become more ruthless in these types of games as they aim to maintain their place in the top six.
“You have got to treat every game and every opponent the same. If you don’t, you can get bitten on the backside,” he told The Bolton News.
“We know they will probably have a gameplan in terms of how to counteract our style. We will just have to be patient and know that when teams come here, they are going to sit off.
“They are not going to come at us toe-to-toe and you have got to find another way of unlocking the door. That is something we have been guilty of over the course of this season. Can you find another way of playing or have that patience to wait?
“It might take until the 89th minute and you might nick a 1-0 win, but that three points could make a massive difference come the end of the season.
“It is managing expectations as well. I have said about the support and the feel-good factor around the place, but that also comes with expectation and pressure. You have got to be able to handle that.
“The fans have got to trust the process and the style of play, and just know that it might take time for us to implement what we are trying to do on the pitch into a winning formula.
“It might not always be what people want to see in terms of all action but if it gets you three points – you have just got to keep believing and keep supporting it.”
Cheltenham find themselves 18th in the table – four points above the drop zone at this stage of the campaign. The Robins were held to a goalless draw against Port Vale in their last outing after failing to carve out chances in the final third.
Wade Elliott’s side recorded a 1-0 victory when the sides met at Whaddon Road back in October, with Ryan Broom getting the decisive goal three minutes from time.
