Daisy Hill will be looking to end a run of three games without a win when they host FC St Helens at New Sirs in the North West Counties League First Division North tomorrow.
Monday night’s defeat at the hands of league leaders Pilkington was the latest setback for Daisy, but despite their recent run they are still just two points outside the promotion play-off places.
However, this weekend’s opponents FC St Helens are in good form and have not lost a league game since early September.
They travel to New Sirs on the back of having taken Northern Premier League side Bamber Bridge to a penalty shootout in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy on Tuesday night.
Nonetheless, Daisy joint-manager Leighton Mills is confident his side can bounce back against a side who narrowly beat them when the sides last met in November.
“The game at FC St Helens was probably our best performance of the season,” said Mills.
“We did everything right, bar put the ball in the net, and caused them problems, it just didn’t fall for us on the day.
“We have had a tough run of games in recent weeks, against teams in the top six, and things have not gone our way.
“We have lost players for various reasons, and it’s a bad time of the season for that to happen.
“I have said to the lads now that if we don’t win our next two home games, I think the play-offs may be beyond us.
“Teams around us have got games in hand, and if they go six to eight points clear, we will have difficulty bridging that gap.
“We know FC St Helens have been on a good run, and they are in front of us on points, but I feel we can cause them problems.
“A big win would set us up well for a run of games in the coming weeks, against teams who are below us in the table.”
The game at New Sirs kicks off at 3pm.
