Derby County boss Paul Warne hailed the travelling Wanderers fans after his side’s 2-1 victory at Pride Park.
More than 3,100 Whites supporters were in attendance as Ian Evatt’s men saw their unbeaten run come to an end.
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing opened the scoring before Conor Hourihane doubled the hosts’ lead after the break.
Substitute Kieran Sadlier pulled one back with a clinical strike in the final stages but it wasn’t enough for Wanderers.
“I was laughing with the bench after 10 minutes saying everyone has just come to have a sing-off,” Warne joked.
“It was an honour for the lads to play in front of 30,000 people. Fair play to Bolton for bringing all their fans.
“They’re on a good run as well, and they have been through similar things to Derby and are out the other side now. It is a really good win and a really good marker.”
The result sees Warne’s side maintain their place in the top four, having lost just five league games since the start of the campaign.
The Derby boss added: “Against a really good team, I think we were both in good form and in fairness, when we played at Bolton I thought we cancelled each other out for long periods.
“Today was the same thing. Both teams played parts of the game really well and apart from a five-minute spell after half time, it was a good game.
“After 60 or 65 minutes, I thought we were really in the ascendency. I thought we looked good for the win.
“They are very good at playing out from the back but the way we ask our team to press and run, it makes it difficult for the goalkeeper.
“We hassled them enough to win the ball back in important areas and two very good goals were enough to win the game. Obviously, the disappointment of conceding late on but we saw the game out.”
Despite the result, Wanderers still have a six-point cushion over seventh-place Peterborough after their clash with Charlton was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
The Whites are back in action on Tuesday night when they welcome Forest Green to the University of Bolton Stadium (7.45pm).
