Wanderers’ Papa Johns Trophy semi-final against Accrington Stanley will take place on Wednesday, February 22 (8pm).

The Whites reached this stage following a 1-0 victory against Portsmouth at the University of Bolton Stadium, with Jon Dadi Bodvarsson getting the decisive goal.

Ian Evatt’s men also overcame Barrow and Manchester United Under-21s in the knockout rounds after finishing top of Group B.

Meanwhile, Accrington beat Lincoln City on penalties in the quarter-final following a 2-2 draw at Sincil Bank. Former Bolton loanee Lukas Jensen denied Danny Mandroiu and Max Sanders from the spot.

The winners at the Wham Stadium will advance to the Wembley final, which is scheduled to be played on Sunday, April 2.

The other semi-final tie sees Cheltenham make the trip to Home Park to take on League One leaders Plymouth. Both games are scheduled to be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Wanderers have also confirmed that their league fixture against Accrington will now take place on Tuesday, April 25 (7.45pm).

This match was initially scheduled for Saturday, April 1 but one of the teams will be involved in the final that weekend.

Accrington currently sit 19th in the table – a point above the drop zone despite having played at least one game fewer than the sides around them.

The Whites ran out 3-2 winners when the sides met back in October. Kieran Lee and Dapo Afolayan were on target, as well as a Harvey Rodgers own goal, as Evatt’s men completed a memorable comeback on the road.

Wanderers have a busy run-in before the semi-final, including fixtures against Derby, Charlton, Peterborough and Wycombe.

Bolton won the competition in 1989 following a memorable 4-1 win against Torquay. Under-18s manager Julian Darby was on target against the Gulls that day.
