Reports in Germany claim that Hamburg-based St Pauli are interested in signing Dapo Afolayan.
The Hamburg Morning Post and Hamburg Abenblatt (Evening News) claims that a fee of 600,000 Euros (£532,000) will not deter the Bundesliga 2 side from making a move for the Wanderers star in the January transfer window.
Speculation has been rife over the past couple of weeks that last season’s player of the year and top goal-scorer could move on this month.
Ian Evatt refused to talk about “rumours” after leaving him out of the squad for the Papa Johns Trophy quarter final victory against Portsmouth.
This weekend Afolayan will serve the last of a three-game ban for violent conduct after being retrospectively punished by the Football Association for an elbow at Lincoln City on December 30.
He would have been eligible to play against Pompey on Tuesday night but Evatt claimed he wanted to concentrate on the squad which would be available to him at the weekend.
St Pauli are currently 15th in the table after 17 games and have recently invested in three new players to try and push their way up the league.
According to the German press: “Talks have progressed. However, the 25-year-old has not yet completed the medical check-up.”
Afolayan has made 101 appearances for Wanderers since signing from West Ham United, initially on loan, in the winter window of 2021.
He helped the Whites to promotion from League Two, scoring his first goal for the club on the final day of the season at Crawley, and topped the goal charts the following season in League One with 14.
He is contracted to Bolton until the summer of 2024.
