Lincoln boss Mark Kennedy says the second half was “ugly” during his side’s 1-1 draw against Wanderers.
Ben House put the hosts in front after just 10 minutes but the Whites hit back through Eoin Toal after the break – the defender’s first goal in English football.
Lincoln were then reduced to 10 men after Joe Walsh was shown a second yellow card, but Ian Evatt’s men failed to make their man advantage count, with substitute Amadou Bakayoko missing a golden chance at the death.
Kennedy felt the game became “scrappy” in the second half and says it “didn’t help” his side for the equaliser.
“I thought the game was very fractured in the second half through no fault of our own,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.
“There just seemed to be so much going on. I don’t mean in terms of football, I just mean off the ball.
“It was a really bitsy and scrappy second half. Constant stoppages and breaks, and I didn’t think that helped us for the goal. But we have got to defend it better than that. It was an ugly second half.”
When asked about the sending off, he added: “The second (booking), yes. The first one, I just don’t understand why Joe has been booked but the other player hasn’t.
“I am not saying Joe shouldn’t have been booked, I honestly haven’t seen it. But everybody I have spoken has said if one is getting booked, the other should get booked.”
Kennedy was also cautioned and reckons referee Geoff Eltringham showed a lack of consistency in his decisions at times.
“I thought they spent a lot of time out of their (technical area). They just happened to be stood the other side,” he said.
Despite holding onto their lead, the Lincoln boss was delighted with his side’s display against the Whites.
“I thought we were outstanding,” he added. Resilient, disciplined, structured, huge hearts. A brilliant response from Boxing Day and I thought every player was outstanding.”
The result leaves Wanderers sixth in the League One table after Derby recorded a 1-0 victory against Cambridge.
Evatt’s men are currently three points behind fourth-place Barnsley ahead of Monday’s trip to Oakwell (3pm).
