Several former Wanderers named have been in action at the World Cup in Qatar, but how have they fared?
The biggest tournament on the planet has already provided plenty of drama and there have been a few surprises along the way, with the likes of Belgium, Germany and now Spain crashing out.
Whites supporters might have noticed a few familiar faces while following the action, particular during England’s goalless draw against the United States in the group stage.
Antonee Robinson
Robinson has caught the eye since the start of the tournament and has even been linked with a big-money move to Inter Milan or Newcastle.
The speedy full-back had a spell on loan at Wanderers from Everton during the 2017/18 campaign, making 34 appearances in total.
He featured as the Whites overcame Nottingham Forest on the final day to avoid relegation from the Championship.
Robinson, who is currently playing in the Premier League with Fulham, impressed as Gregg Berhalter’s side reached the knockout stage. He was also named in the starting line-up last weekend when they were knocked out in the round of 16 following a 3-1 defeat against the Netherlands.
Tim Ream
Ream also played in defence against England as the US managed to shut out an attack featuring the likes of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford.
The experienced centre-back spent two-and-a-half years at Bolton after joining from New York Red Bulls back in January 2010.
He went on to make more than 100 appearances for the club before making the move to Craven Cottage in the summer of 2015.
Ream played the full 90 minutes against the Netherlands in what could well be his last major tournament for the national side.
Aaron Mooy
Australia also caused a few surprises this year, reaching the knockout rounds after wins against Denmark and Tunisia, and Mooy played a key role in midfield.
He joined Wanderers’ youth ranks in 2006 and was once compared to French legend Zinedine Zidane by then youth coach Peter Farrell.
Mooy went on to have spells with Huddersfield and Brighton among others, as well as a stint in the Chinese Super League, and is currently playing for Scottish giants Celtic.
The midfielder had some impressive displays in the group stage and also featured in the narrow 2-1 loss against Argentina in the round of 16 at the weekend.
Aaron Ramsdale
Ramsdale was let go by the Whites at the of 15 because, in his words, he was “too small and couldn’t kick”.
The 24-year-old is now recognised as one of the Premier League’s leading shot stoppers as a result of his performances for Arsenal, who are currently five points clear at the top of the table.
Ramsdale hasn’t featured at the World Cup so far, with Jordan Pickford keeping a clean sheet in three of England’s four matches.
Gareth Southgate’s side impressed in the recent 3-0 win against Senegal but face a tough test on Saturday night when they take on France in the quarter-final (KO 7pm).
