The latest League One ‘supercomputer’ has tipped Wanderers to finish in eighth place this season.
Despite Saturday’s 3-1 defeat against Oxford at the UniBol, the Whites are currently in the play-off places.
Ian Evatt’s men are three points above seventh-place Derby, although the Rams have played a game fewer.
Wanderers are currently eight points better off than they were at this stage last term, when they eventually finished ninth following a strong run of form during the final months.
The predicted table is based on a wide range of data from the season so far via football statistics website FiveThirtyEight.
It suggests that the title race will go down to the wire between Plymouth and Ipswich, with the former tipped to clinch it on goal difference.
Sheffield Wednesday, Derby, Peterborough and Portsmouth are also expected to finish in the play-off places, with Barnsley juts missing out.
The likes of Charlton, Wycombe and Oxford are also tipped to finish in the top half come the end of the season.
At the other end of the table, Forest Green, Morecambe, Burton and Accrington are all predicted to be relegated to the fourth tier.
MK Dons are predicted to beat the drop fairly comfortably in the end despite a difficult start to the campaign.
