Former Wanderers midfielder Marcus Maddison has left non-league side Darlington by mutual consent.
The 29-year-old joined the Quakers over the summer following a stint at Spalding United, making five appearances.
Earlier this year, Maddison had surgery on a knee injury after raising funds via a GoFundMe page to cover the costs.
An official statement read: “Darlington FC would like to announce that we have agreed to cancel the contract of Marcus Maddison by mutual consent.
"We would like to wish Marcus all the best for the future.”
Maddison made more than 240 appearances during a six-year spell at Peterborough between 2014 and 2020, scoring 62 goals.
The midfielder joined the Whites on loan from Charlton in February 2021 but played just 10 times in total.
His time at the UniBol was cut short, opting to step away from the professional game due to mental health reasons.
Speaking in June, he said: “Things didn’t go well at Bolton and, headspace, I just wasn’t in the right way to play football anymore.
“I think taking this year out, getting my injury sorted and things like that has made a huge difference to me mentally.”
Darlington are currently second in the National League North table – only a point behind current leaders King’s Lynn after a strong start to the campaign.
The Quakers have won their last six matches, although Maddison did not feature in any of those fixtures.
