Cheltenham boss Wade Elliott believes his side’s 1-0 win against Wanderers was their best performance of the season.

Ryan Broom scored the winner three minutes from time, keeping his cool to slot past James Trafford after getting in behind the Bolton backline.

It could have been more had it not been for the Bolton goalkeeper, who made a heroic stop to keep out Lewis Freestone’s header during the second half.

The Whites were a long way off their performances of late and failed to register a single shot on target throughout the game despite enjoying most of the possession.

“I thought they [the players] were excellent. They were really good to a man and I think it was the right outcome,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.

“I asked the players for their feedback and that was one of the things they said – they kept believing, kept pushing and never gave in.

“For all the chances we created, all the shots and crosses, they kept probing, kept asking questions and justifiably got their reward.

“That is testament to the players. You can set it out, but they are the ones who have to go and live it and act it.

“The ones who came on slotted in. Really pleased with them, pleased for everybody because it has been a good night for the football club.”

Nlundulu, a former transfer target for Wanderers, looked lively throughout the game and provided the assist for Broom’s goal.

Elliott added: “It was a bit of quality. I thought Dan [Nlundulu] was good. Held the ball for us, great run, great ball and a good finish.

“Broomy can do that, he has got the energy to keep getting in the box and keep putting himself in situations where he can score goals.”

Wanderers remain sixth in the League One table but missed a chance to close the gap on some of the sides above them.

Ian Evatt’s men are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they head to Forest Green Rovers (KO 3pm).
