Tranmere boss Micky Mellon says he can't fault his players after their penalty shooutout win against Wanderers.
Kieron Morris and Paul Lewis were both on target for the hosts during the first half, but Kieran Sadlier pulled one back after the break.
And Conor Carty scored a superb equaliser in stoppage time on his first-team debut after impressing for the B Team in recent weeks.
The Whites missed out on a bonus point, losing the shootout after Lloyd Isgrove’s spot kick was saved by Mateusz Hewelt.
Mellon was disappointed to concede so late but felt the game was a "great experience" for his younger players.
He told the club’s YouTube channel: “I thought it was a good game, a proper game. Sometimes, you play these fixtures and people don’t take them seriously for whatever reason.
“But certainly tonight it as a well contested game. We got some young players onto the pitch, some great experience and I can only see positives.
“We scored some good goals. We went 2-0 up at half-time and then gave away a bit of a sloppy goal to give them a glimmer of hope. But then I think we settled the game back down again. We changed things around a wee bit and brought some bodies off and did bits and pieces.
“The game settled back down again, it looked like it was running out and we had a bit of a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, he makes a save. And then we were disappointed to lose a goal right at the death.
“If we are hyper critical, there were moments we could have done better in that goal. But in terms of the performance, I couldn’t fault them.
“I keep telling everybody how young some of these players are and they really are stepping forward.”
Wanderers have now taken four points from their opening two group matches and still have Leeds United Under-21s to play at the UniBol next month.
