Tranmere have been boosted by the return of midfielder Kieron Morris ahead of Tuesday night’s clash with Wanderers.
Morris came off the bench in the 1-0 win against Salford City at the weekend after returning from a spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury.
Manager Micky Mellon is delighted to have the 28-year-old back in the squad and says he was a big miss.
“We are missing a lot and we never complain,” Mellon told the club’s website. “He is arguably one of the best players in the league, that is my opinion.
“That is high praise, we have been missing a really talented lad. We are also missing Tom Davies and Joel Mumbongo.
“We are missing a lot of lads who are seasoned pros at this level and our bench at times has looked very young.”
Mellon’s side recorded a 1-0 victory against high-flying Salford at the Peninsula Stadium thanks to Josh Hawkes’ first-half strike.
The result leaves the Merseyside outfit 14th in the League Two table, having taken 10 points from their opening nine matches since the start of the new campaign.
The Tranmere chief was delighted with his side’s display against the Ammies but says they need to find consistency over the coming weeks and months.
Mellon said: "I always stand here and [support] the players. We come together and we put a game plan together. Then it's up to them to go and execute it, and they did that.
"They were excellent from the first minute, working hard at the things we decided that we were going to try and do in the game, and they did it for the whole 90 minutes so every credit to them for doing that.
“It was a real team performance and I think we could have had a few more goals, to be fair.
"When you look out there as well, how many 20-year-olds were playing out there? There are so many young players now. We haven't really had that, certainly since I've been here.”
He added: “We have bags of energy and enthusiasm, that just needs to become consistent. We could see with the experienced players in and around them what we can be like, so it was a really good performance."
Wanderers secured a convincing 4-1 win against Crewe Alexandra in their Papa John’s Trophy opener last month.
Meanwhile, Tranmere were due to face Leeds United Under-21s but the fixture was postponed until November 1 due to youth international call-ups.
