Wanderers boss Ian Evatt says new signing Owen Beck is making progress but still “not quite where we want him to be”.
The 20-year-old joined on a season-long loan from Liverpool a day before the summer transfer window closed.
The move came after he was recalled from Portuguese top-flight side Famalicao, where he had limited playing time.
Evatt also gave a positive update on goalkeeper James Trafford, who needed treatment during the final stages of the 3-1 win against Charlton Athletic.
It wasn’t anything serious and the Manchester City loanee is available for Saturday’s trip to Cheltenham Town.
Josh Sheehan and Eoin Toal are also continuing to improve their fitness levels, though Lloyd Isgrove is still dealing with a heel problem.
“James Trafford is fine after that little ankle knock,” Evatt told The Bolton News.
“Izzy is still struggling with that heel and plantar fascia. But other than that, Josh Sheehan and Eoin Toal are increasing their fitness levels all of the time.
“Owen Beck is physically looking a bit better this week. He is still probably not quite where we want him but he is getting there fast, which is good.
“Some really good signs from him today. The squad is in a good place, they have trained really well the last couple of days.”
Meanwhile, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has not yet returned to training after missing several games due to a hamstring strain.
