Wanderers kick off their Papa John’s Trophy campaign with a home fixture against League Two Crewe Alexandra tonight (KO 7pm).
Ian Evatt’s men will be looking to bounce back from Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.
The Whites reached the round of 16 last season but missed out on a quarter-final spot following a 1-0 loss at Hartlepool United.
Team news
Josh Sheehan and Lloyd Isgrove are both set to be involved after featuring for the B Team over the past couple of weeks.
Summer signing Eoin Toal could also feature after playing 45 minutes for Mat Craddock’s side in the 2-1 defeat against Blackpool.
However, Iceland international Jon Dadi Bodvarsson remains sidelined due to a hamstring problem.
Opposition lowdown
Crewe brought in several fresh faces over the summer following relegation to the fourth tier, including the likes of Connor Thomas, Eli King and Courtney Baker-Richardson.
Alex Morris’ side are currently seventh in the League Two table, having picked up 11 points from their opening six matches.
The Railwaymen enter the game on the back of a goalless draw against Bradford City, with their best chance falling to Dan Agyei.
Crewe reached the quarter-final last term after winning Group C with a 100 per cent record but were eventually knocked out by Rotherham United.
Head-to-head
Wanderers have faced Crewe 20 times in their history, with a record of 10 wins, five draws and five defeats.
The Whites recorded a 1-0 victory when the sides last met back in March thanks to Amadou Bakayoko’s late winner.
Evatt’s men also came out on top at the UniBol back in November, with Josh Sheehan and Bakayoko on target in a 2-0 victory.
