Republic of Ireland international James Collins is reportedly set to join Wanderers’ League One rivals Derby County on a free transfer.
The Whites had been linked with the 31-year-old forward, who has one year left on his contract at Cardiff City.
But Collins is now set to put pen to paper over a two-year deal with the Rams, according to a report by Football Insider.
Derby have already brought in several fresh faces including the likes of Conor Hourihane, Tom Barkhuizen and James Chester following their takeover by Clowes Development Ltd.
The Rams are aiming to bounce back from relegation from the Championship last season, when they received a hefty points deduction due to their issues off the pitch.
Liam Rosenior is currently in charge on an interim basis following Wayne Rooney’s departure, with the Manchester United legend since returning to MLS side DC United as their new boss.
Collins began his career at Aston Villa and went on to have spells at Crawley, Hibernian and Shrewsbury among others.
The forward made the move to Luton Town in the summer of 2017, scoring 24 goals in 185 appearances for the Hatters.
He then headed to Cardiff but found the net just three times in 26 matches as the Bluebirds finished 18th in the Championship last season.
Collins also has experience on the international stage, with his last Republic of Ireland appearance coming in a 4-0 win against Qatar back in October.
Wanderers have made three signings so far this summer, bringing in Jack Iredale and Conor Bradley as well as re-signing James Trafford on loan from Manchester City.
