WANDERERS had one of the highest average away attendances in League One last season, but how expensive is it to follow the Whites on the road?
Ian Evatt’s men were followed up and down the country by an average of 1,654 supporters during the 2021/22 campaign – a total only bettered by Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland and Ipswich.
But how much do Bolton fans spend on average to watch their side in action compared to the rest of League One?
A new study by OLBG has worked out how much it cost supporters to attend home and away matches over the past 12 months.
The data is based on average ticket prices - including both season tickets and individual games - and travel costs.
According to the study, it would have cost Wanderers fans £2,395 on average to attend League One every fixture last term.
This figure puts the Whites near the bottom of the list – only six clubs ended up with lower totals for the season.
Doncaster were the cheapest side to support in League One last season with an average total of £2,173.
Crewe and Rotherham were also at the lower end of the list with figures of £2,230 and £2,246 respectively.
Meanwhile, Plymouth were the most expensive club to follow. It would have cost supporters £4,337 to follow the Green Army up and down the country.
However, this figure is impacted by their location on the South Coast and therefore the extra travel compared to most teams.
Sunderland came second in the list with an average total of £4,115, while Portsmouth (£3,150) complete the top three.
Evatt will be hoping supporters can continue to travel in numbers next season as Wanderers aim to continue their climb back up the divisions.
