DAISY Hill skipper Connor Hughes has agreed a deal to stay at the club for a further two seasons.

Hughes ended the 2021/22 campaign as Daisy’s leading scorer, with 28 goals in all competitions, and enjoyed a terrific run of form in the closing weeks of the season when he scored 11 goals in six games, including two hat-tricks.

That form earned him the North West Countries League divisional Player-of-the-Month award for March, and as a result attracted a lot of interest from other clubs.

However, Daisy manager Leighton Mills moved quickly to secure his captain’s services.

And he is naturally delighted to have Hughes on board as captain for a further two years.

“We had to get the deal done early because of all the interest surrounding Connor for next season,” said the Daisy boss.

“He’s our captain, he’s our leader and he’s also a pleasure to work with.

“I’m over the moon we’ve got his signature for the next two years.

“If we want to be a force next season, these are the players you need to keep hold of.

“Connor will go on to achieve great things at Daisy Hill – he will go down a club legend.”

Although the club’s North West Counties League campaign is complete, Daisy are still involved in the Bolton Hospital Cup, and host Bolton Wyresdale in a quarter final-tie at New Sirs next Monday, kick off 7.45 pm.
