WANDERERS are predicted to take eight points from their final four games of the season, according to a supercomputer.
The Whites are currently 10th in the League One table – one point above Portsmouth, who have played two games fewer.
Ian Evatt’s men still have to play Doncaster, Accrington, Cheltenham and Fleetwood before the end of the campaign.
Wanderers are predicted to finish on 69 points according to football statistics website FiveThirtyEight's table, which is determined usnig a wide range of data from the season so far.
This would be five points higher than the 1988/89 campaign when the Whites were also aiming to build on a promotion from the fourth tier.
Remarkably, the table also predicts that Evatt's men will finish level with Pompey on points AND goal difference.
Danny Cowley’s men still have fixtures against Rotherham, Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday coming up before the end of the month.
Current leaders Wigan are expected to maintain their spot at the top of the table despite pressure from Rotherham.
Meanwhile, MK Dons, Plymouth, Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland are all predicted to make the play-offs.
At the other end of the table, Doncaster, Wimbledon and Morecambe are expected to join Crewe in the bottom four.
