WANDERERS (5-3-2)

JAMES TRAFFORD…7.

Two games, two clean sheets. Made a couple of routine saves with one minor spill but looks to have confidence in abundance.

MARLON FOSSEY…7.5.

Came to life after the arrival of Afolayan at the break, becoming Bolton’s most dangerous threat in the final third. Another impressive show.

GETHIN JONES…7.5.

Exudes calm across the back line. Came up with some important defensive headers and a handful of blocks, which also set the right tone.

RICARDO SANTOS…7.

Looked sturdy and contributed plenty to a really gritty defensive effort, especially in one-on-one situations where he can use his pace and power.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…7.

Passing radar was a little off in the first half but Johnston still came up with some big defensive moments and looked happy to step out into midfield.

DECLAN JOHN…7.

Always looked to get Bolton moving forward and while Shrewsbury did find gaps behind him at times, he improved defensively as the game wore on.

KIERAN LEE…5.

Picked up a slight hip problem and it definitely limited his effectiveness in the first half before being substituted.

MJ WILLIAMS…6.5.

Worked really hard out of possession but lacked a bit of punch when Bolton won the ball back and had to get moving through midfield.

AARON MORLEY…7.

Nearly signed for Shrewsbury in the summer and showed them what they were missing with some clever work on the ball.

DION CHARLES…8.5.

Leave aside the stunning winner, Charles had worked himself to a standstill for the previous 88 minutes. Has the potential to be a fans’ favourite.

AMADOU BAKAYOKO…5.

Struggled to get into the game as Shrewsbury’s centre-halves dominated the opening hour. Missed one reasonable chance at the near post.

Subs: Afolayan 7.5, 46 (for Lee) – Asked more questions than anyone else, in half the time.

Bodvarsson 6.5, 70 (for Bakayoko) – Used a bit of experience towards the end but still feeling his way to fitness.

Not used: Pierre, Fornah, Burgoyne, Pyke, Daniels.

Referee: Charles Brakespear 7/10 – Steve Cotterill may not agree but not much to complain about from a Bolton perspective on the referee’s performance.
