DENNIS Politic is expected to end his six-year affiliation with Bolton Wanderers today as he signs for Italian club Cremonese.
The Romania-born winger was officially recalled from a loan spell at Port Vale yesterday ahead of a £50,000 move to the Serie B promotion-chasers.
Wanderers could also benefit in the future from a sell-on clause inserted into the 21-year-old’s contract.
Politic turned down a one-year deal with Bolton, where he has played since the age of 15, and was expected to see the season out at League Two Vale.
But reports in Romania yesterday revealed that a permanent move had been agreed with Cremonese, who currently sit in fourth place in the second tier of Italian football.
Politic will undergo a medical in Cremona, Northern Italy, today before finalising the move, leaving only four remaining players at Wanderers who took to the field against Coventry City in August 2019 as the club’s youngest-ever team.
Ronan Darcy, Matt Alexander and Liam Edwards remain contracted to Bolton, although all three players have spent time away from the club this season on loan.
Politic’s future has been much discussed among Wanderers fans, with many calling for him to be recalled this month to help the club’s goalscoring problems.
But last week Ian Evatt appeared to draw a line under the youngster’s career at the UniBol by stating that the club had “moved on” and would be looking to other players to bolster their squad in League One.
“We have other targets, we have other forward options and we offered Dennis a contract, he didn’t sign the contract so we’ve drawn a line under that one and we’ll move on,” said the Bolton boss.
Wanderers have already brought in Dion Charles, Marlon Fossey, Aaron Morley and James Trafford this month.
Politic came through the Whites’ academy and made his first-team debut against Wycombe back in August 2019.
The winger was forced to watch from the sidelines last term after suffering a serious knee injury in a pre-season friendly at Loughborough.
He has scored five goals in 16 appearances for Port Vale this season, including a brace against Burton in the FA Cup last month.
